Sage MedWare and NPI Legacy ID Update
As many of you are aware, May 23, 2008 is an important deadline for all of us. That’s the date when healthcare providers will be required to provide only their National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) on all Medicare paper and electronic claims for reimbursement. We expect most payers to follow Medicare’s lead, but it is very important that you contact your payers and understand their timelines for requiring NPI-only claims.
Sage Medware Job Aid: Removing Legacy IDs on Paper and Electronic Claims
Over the past year the healthcare industry has been in a transition period with the carriers; where the carriers would accept both the NPI # and the legacy ID on the electronic and paper claims. The next step in the NPI process is to remove the legacy IDs from both electronic and paper claims.
The Sage MedWare system is designed to allow you to remove legacy IDs by payer. The instructions available in the Sage MedWare Job Aid walk you through the changes that you need to make to your system as you are notified that a carrier is ready to accept only NPI numbers.
